Spiritual/social: re-connecting to the roots
In the Western world the decline of spirituality started during the First World War. The devastating war made it hard for people to believe that the killings and atrocities were part of a universe that had meaning. This experience of being lost in a dark, hostile world was intensified during the Second World War. The access to the transcendent reality of life is buried under the pain and loneliness of these decades.

Pansori introduces the necessity to work with the spiritual /social level. Spirituality finds its inner power and energy within the community. It can be accessed in ways that honor the culture of the community. Singing and praying together can create an energy of love, performing rituals to remember the dead can strengthen the community.

Pansori explores the possibilities of mythical theater to work with this level. A process of remembering and reliving the connection to the divine world can begin by telling the old myths about the link between the gods and mankind. Acting out those stories has a tremendous healing power and grounds the community in their history and roots.
