Emotional: strengthening the identity

Emotions are related to identity. Feelings color our daily life. In Spain they say: 'When there is no feeling, there is no life'. The voice reflects the identity. Each human voice is a unique instrument, all the subtleties of the human psyche can be heard in the voice. The tone of the voice often tells more about us than the words we speak.

In many cultures the expression of feelings is limited by cultural habits and unreleased tensions are stored in the emotional body. Much stress in our societies relates to these unexpressed feelings. The price we are paying for this is high. The unresolved feelings of anger, hatred, envy and pain are often directed and projected onto people of another religion, race or culture. These projected feelings ultimately provide support for the wars that are fought all over the world.

The world needs innovative processes to heal those memories.

In Pansori sound, voice and rhythm are used to access and strengthen the identity. They are chosen, because they provide a pure and direct entry into the world of feeling.

Voice, sound and rhythm are used in three ways:

  • to bring vibration into parts of the body that are painful or frozen combined with direct work on the body
  • to explore the voice as an instrument to heal emotional wounding
  • as a communal process in trauma-affected communities when they act out their history in mythical theater or sing together during communal events
